11+ tutoring for children in year 5
We offer small friendly classes, weekly homework, an excellent success rate, regular feedback, confidence building techniques and much much more.
TorbayTutors’ courses have been designed after an extensive review of the available information including: information on the exams released by the local grammar schools and by GL Assessment; other published 11+ works; and feedback from children who have taken the exams. We have tailored our courses to the demands of the Torbay 11+ exams and we keep them under constant review.
Each child attends a one hour tutoring session once a week at a set time and place. The cost of these sessions is £22. Sessions are held during term time, in safe, secure environments in Torquay, Paignton, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot. You choose a day and time to suit your timetable.
Children are tutored in small groups allowing their confidence to grow in a friendly environment and for them to be given personal attention where required. Tuition includes:
Maths
Including consolidating mathematical skills and applying them to 11+ style questions.

Including building up word power and comprehension.

- grammar: understanding and identifying verbs, nouns adjectives etc

- literary devices: simile, metaphor, alliteration etc.
- different types of comprehension questions: closed, analytical, inferential and main idea
Some work will be timed to get children used to time management. Parents will receive regular feedback on their child’s progress. You may stop tuition at any time.
Many children start tuition in Year 4 and we strongly recommend that tuition is started no later than the beginning of Year 5. However, if places are still available, we do accept children later in Year 5 as clearly some tuition is better than none. We must stress that the later the start the less we can do in the time available.
